Virgie Elizabeth Atkins, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2019 in Orange, VA. Virgie was born in Sperryville, VA to Joseph & Bessie Atkins on August 29, 1934. She attended school in Rappahannock, VA. As a girl, Virgie enjoyed playing basketball and bowling. Virgie worked at the Culpeper Holiday Inn for years and her warmth welcomed all travelers. She often reminded others: "smile, and the world smiles with you." Virgie was known for her quick wit and feisty personality. She loved keeping her mind sharp with crossword puzzles and keeping herself in shape by tending to her garden. She was very proud of her family and will be dearly missed. Virgie is preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Leake; daughter, Kathy Elizabeth Leake; father, Joseph Franklin Atkins; mother, Bessie Dodson Atkins; and sister, Jean Maybeth Atkins Sabol. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Cynthia & Paul Curtis; grandson, Noah Curtis & his wife Amanda Curtis; granddaughter, Claire Curtis; brother & sister-in-law, J.T. & Sophie Atkins; and beloved granddogs, Blu, Ember, and Zora Lynn Curtis. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday June 7th at Sperryville Cemetery; Sperryville, Virginia.
