On June 14, 1938, Ethel married a newly ordained minister by the name of Erni Holm. After marriage they served churches in Scandia, Alberta, Canada ‘38-‘43, Evansville, Minnesota ‘43-‘48, Council Bluffs, Iowa ‘48-‘54, Walnut Grove, Minnesota ‘54-‘61, and Pine City, Minnesota ‘61-‘68. While living in Pine City Ethel began working at the Lino Lakes Treatment Center. In the Fall of 1968, following Erni’s untimely death on January 13th of that year, Ethel moved to Minneapolis. She began working as administrator for Twin City Linnea Home in St. Paul and moved to St. Paul in 1970. She retired in 1982, remaining in St. Paul until moving to Northfield in 2008.
Ethel was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Roseville and Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, writing and reading. She was quiet, organized, had a strong and unwavering Christian Faith, and loved her church home.
