Major Nathaniel H "Nat" Dye was born on January 13, 1866 in Montgomery County, Tennessee, the son of William Thomas Dye (1831–1916) and hie 1st wife Sue (Allen) Dye.

He was married 1st on August 21, 1887 in Stewart County to Mary Floyd Ralls (1869–1929) of Dover. He was married 2nd in 1932 to Nina Davis (1883–1966) of Montgomery County, and she was the daughter of A L Davis and Lon (Titia) Davis.

Nat moved to Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee in 1907 to serve as United States property and disbursing officer for Governor Malcolm R Patterson and was later made assistant adjutant general under Governor Austin Peay. Then, by the time he retired in 1941, he was superintendent of Conservation Corps Camps at Paris, Tennessee.

Living at 1111 Stainback Avenue in Nashville, he was 86 years old, married and had arteriosclerosis when he died of a heart attack at home on March 31, 1952.

Preceded in death by his 1st wife Mary, he was survived by his widow Nina, son Howard Dye in Peoria, Illinois and a grandson.

Funeral Services were held on April 1st at Cosmopolitan Funeral Home, and burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
