Carl and Dorothy’s Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, with Pastor Bill Pavuk officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery, with military honors.
Carl was born to Adaline and Benjamin Sharp on Nov. 3, 1922, in Gooding, Idaho. They moved to Grand Island very early in his childhood and he attended school West Lawn School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1941. At the age of 19 he joined the Navy (WWII) and served four years in Califorina and Panama.
Upon his return to Grand Island, he worked for a grocer, department store and settled into 21 years of clerking for Sothman Lumber Co., ending his career at age 65 at Century Lumber (20 years). It’s not surprising he loved woodworking and gardening. He was a member of St Pauls Lutheran Church, VFW, Optimists, Eagles, and Liederkranz.
He is survived by three children, Robert Sharp, Barbara Watton and Cindy Wardyn; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy (Rauert); his parents; two brothers, Keneth and Howard; and three sisters, Alice, Melva and Audry.
