A native of Portsmouth, he was born on August 20, 1920, and was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Rena Jackson; and his brother, Charles H. Jackson.
Garland retired as a machinist in 1972 from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marion Mikeâ Jackson; two daughters, Sandra J. Schocklin and Bonnie J. Wainwright; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Schocklin and James Jackson.
