She was born in Marietta, Ohio, on Nov. 11, 1943, the daughter of the late Harold H. and Mary Evelyn (Klinger) Tornes.
Edna was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic High School, class of 1961. She worked at United National Bank, which eventually became PNC Bank, for 36 years.
In addition, Edna was a member of the Califon First Aid Squad in the late 1970s and served in various clubs and organizations in Hunterdon County. She was active in the Califon United Methodist Church for over 45 years, teaching Sunday school when her daughter was a youngster, and serving as the church's financial secretary.
Furthermore, she volunteered at the Top o' th' Barn Thrift Shop for many years and frequently lent a helping hand to members of the community in their time of need.
Edna is survived by a daughter, Krista J. Deckhut of Califon; brothers, Francis, Robert (Janet) and James (Barbara); sisters, Dorothy (Steve) Atkinson, Anna (Jerry) Ullman and Patty Ogle; brother-in-law, Robert Pettit and a sister-in-law, Jean Tornes, all from Ohio; a brother-in-law, Zane (Sandra) Deckhut from Northampton, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
Edna was predeceased in faith by her husband, Gary Deckhut in 2015; a brother, Joseph; a sister, Bernadette Pettit and a sister-in-law, Nancy Tornes.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 31 in the Califon United Methodist Church 15 Raritan River Rd., Califon, NJ 07830, followed by burial in Mountain View Cemetery, Cokesbury, NJ. Friends may call on Thursday, May 30 from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Coughlin Funeral Home, 15 Academy St., Califon, NJ 07830.
