Gertrude "Trude" Newstein Arrow-Constantine August 6, 1924 - June 18, 2018 Trude Arrow-Constantine, a long-time resident of Marin County passed away on June 18 surrounded by family and friends. She touched many lives with her insight, wisdom, wit, kindness, generosity, beauty, and style. She is greatly missed as the matriarch of the family, and is survived by her three children, Richard (Lydia), Susan Marcia (Ron), and Michael (Katharine). Grandchildren, Candice, Jon, Joe, Geoff, Sam, Lauren, and great-grandchildren, Jude, Jonah, Adeline, and Gideon. Her first husband, Leon Arrow, of 37 years, and second husband of 17 years, Shubert Constantine, preceded her in death. Trude could light up a room with her warmth, grace, and welcoming personality. Family always came first, but she cultivated many deep, lifelong friendships. The Arts played a key part of her social life, enjoying concerts at the symphony, ballet, and theater. She wrote beautiful poetry, played the guitar and a little piano. Her first husband, Leon, was an exceptional classical pianist, and between them both, their home was always filled with music. She actively volunteered for her synagogue, Congregation Rodef Sholom, Hadassah, and The City of Hope, an organization committed to cancer research and treatment. Trude was a lifelong Democrat and supported policies that promoted peaceful solutions to world conflicts, and important social, health, and education programs for minorities, immigrants, and the poor. She was a lifelong supporter of Israel and believed in a fair, just, and lasting peace for the region. She held strong liberal beliefs but deeply believed in the importance for respect and dialogue with those who held differing opinions. In August of 2015, Trude moved to The Redwoods in Mill Valley. There she became active with various clubs and forums. Whoever knew her was touched by her intelligence, articulate nature, huge heart, humor, inclusiveness, and the strength of her moral character. A celebration of her life is set for August 12th at 2:00pm. If interested, please contact her son, Michael, at [email protected]. Donations in her honor can be made to Congregation Rodef Sholom's Elsie Krinitsky Musical Fund or Social Action Fund.
