Fern E. Mathias, 95, of Pana passed away Monday, May 27, 2019 at Heritage Health –Pana. She was born August 25, 1923 in Decatur to the late Raymond & Viola (Tate) Jones. Fern married Lyle C. Mathias, Sr. on November 24, 1949 and he preceded her in death on May 26, 2011.
Fern had worked for GE, Dekalb and helped on the farm. She was also a unit assistant at Prairie Rose Health Care Center. She enjoyed doing crafts, flowers, gardening, going to auctions and loved everyone, especially cooking for them.
Fern is survived by her son, Lyle (Myra) Mathias, Ohlman, IL; grandchildren: Wendy Price (Chris Salazar), Kendra (Sidney) Carter, Kirtus (Carrie) Collins, Kevin Collins (Marcus Brown); great grandchildren: Derrick (Jenny) Mathias; Daylee Mathias; Kayla, Kristofer, Max, and Iris Collins Brown; Brett (Becca) Hunt; Kedra & Kyle Collins; Ravyn & Soryn Salazar; Cheyenne, Blake & Cole File; great-great grandchildren: Clinton Mathias, Elesha Cantrell, Lexi Cantrell, Charlotte Rae Hunt & Embre McLellan; and sister, Thelma Singler, Nokomis, IL. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Shannon Mathias; granddaughter, Kerri Collins & brothers: Coy Jones & Loy Jones.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Mound Cemetery, Pana with Pastor Dave Altman officiating.
Memorials in Fern’s honor may be made to the donor’s choice and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
