Phoebe R. Cooper, 98, a former longtime resident of Oak Park, died March 3 in Community General Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y., after a short illness.
Mrs. Cooper was born Dec. 30, 1898 in Haymarket, Va., the daughter of Nannie Ware Sanders and Enoch Redmond Rector. She married George W. Cooper in 1920 and they moved to Oak Park. They were former part-owners of the Itasca Country Club. Mrs. Cooper enjoyed bridge and was a member of the Nakama Club in Oak Park. The couple also enjoyed golf and world travel. Mr. Cooper preceded her in death, after 52 years of marriage, in 1972.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by her sister, Dorothy R. Petrola of Nob Hill, N.Y.; nephews, Robert M. (Ruth) McMains of Syracuse, N.Y., Worth W. McMains of Apex, N.C., and Francis Petrola of Gaithersburg, Md.; 14 great-nieces and nephews; and 15 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted March 8 in Woodbine Cemetery, Manassas, Va.
