Edwin E. Scott was born in Cuba, New York on February 25, 1827, as the tenth of the thirteen children born to David Wetherell Scott and Sarah (Sally) Marsh.
In 1848, Edwin married Mary Ann Clayson in New York, with whom he had eight children. Edwin and Mary lived in New York until at least 1865 (when their household is recorded in the New York state census), and moved to Pleasant View, [Township], Kansas sometime before 1868.
Mary died on July 16, 1868 in Pleasant View, [Township] approximately two months after giving birth to their youngest child (at the age of 40).
Two years later, Edwin was re-married to Susan Rebecca Clark (nee Payne). Susan was originally from Wittenburg, North Carolina; she was a widow.
Census records describe Edwin's occupation as farming; he and Susan Payne had another four children together.
A local newspaper (“Modern Light”) in 1897, described them among the major families of Pleasant View, Kansas: “Edwin Scott, the patriarch and father of five sons all of whom are a credit to him and the state, and are all located near Pleasant View, was away from home at the time of our visit. However, we had a very pleasant visit with Mrs. Scott who is a loyal Kansan, and calls our country home. The old time talk of ‘going back home’ is out of date with our old settlers now-a-days." Edwin and Susan are implied to have later divorced.
Kansas marriage records indicate that Edwin was re-married to Elizabeth Stoker in 1909; they are shown living together in Weir, Kansas in the 1910 Census.
Susan Payne Scott also appears in the Census, living in the household of her daughter Lucy and son-in-law Clark Duncan, in Scammon, Kansas.
Edwin died on January 25, 1911 in Kansas.
