WILLIAM C. KAPPELMANN

William C. Kappelman (sic), 72, of Rt. 2, Manitowoc, died Friday morning
at Family Heritage Nursing Home, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rockwood Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Herbert Kesting will officiate and burial will be in Forest
View Cemetery, Two Rivers.
Mr. Kappelman was born Dec. 12, 1900, in the Town of Kossuth, son of
the late Fred and Minnie Kappelman. He married Clara Tills June 11, 1924,
at Rockwood Lutheran Church. He was a well known dairy and potato farmer,
retiring in 1965. His wife preceded him in death in October of 1969. He
was a member of Rockwood Lutheran Church and active in various farm
organizations.

Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, after
3 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Monday and from noon at the church until
the time of service.

KAPPELMAN DEAD AT 72
William Kappelman, 72, of Rt. 2, Manitowoc, a retired Town of Kossuth
farmer and potato grower, died Friday morning at Family Heritage Home,
Manitowoc.
Kappelman owned and operated a 450-acre potato and dairy farm in
partnership with his sons, Karl J. and William J., until 1965.
In 1962 Kappelman was honored by the Manitowoc County Chapter of Izaak
Walton League of America for district soil and water conservation
cooperative practices. His farm was site of the first tree planting
machine demeonstration in Manitowoc County in 1952. Kappelman also
planted one of the first pine tree windbreaks, and established a six
acre tree plantation.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, short course,
Kappleman worked as fieldman for the Mishicot Dairy Herd Improvement
Assn. for three years; was a county school committee member 17 years
and a member of the district school board for 20 years.
He served as president of the Northeast Wisconsin Farm Management Assn.
in 1956, and helped organize the Lake to Lake Dairy co-Operative.
Active in Farm Bureau activities, he was a chapter member of the Manitowoc
County Bureau and a former president for three terms. He helped organize
Farm Bureaus in Shawano, Door and Manitowoc Counties.
He was state director for District 6, Wisconsin Farm Bureau in 1966.
