FLORENCE VARGAS A lifelong Livermore resident, died Friday, August 29, 2003 at ValleyCare Hospital in Pleasanton. She was 82. She was born in San Francisco and moved to Livermore in 1929 with her mother and father, Angela and Louis Dezzani. She grew up on a chicken and egg farm on East Avenue, attended Fifth Street School and graduated from Livermore High School in 1939. She worked for the City Clerk and Cresta Blanca Winery for a short time and married Livermore native and rancher, Ed Vargas in 1944. Florence had a passion for playing bridge and was a member of many clubs over the past 35 years. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii and their many cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and Mexico with her husband and friends. Her son, Livermore City Councilman, Tom Vargas, her mother, Angela Dezzani and five grandchildren survived her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, in 1999 and her daughter, Kathy, in 2001. Private services will be held and she will be buried at St. Michael's Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the ValleyCare Foundation, 5674 Stoneridge Drive, Pleasanton, CA 94588.
