Frank Alvin "Slugger" Vollmer Jr., 46, of Silverdale, Wash., passed away surrounded by loved ones Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle, Wash.

He was born Jan. 7, 1970, in Pittsfield, Ill., a son of Frank Sr. and Lyn Scranton Vollmer.

He graduated from Barry High School in 1988 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. He served for the next 20 years and retired with honor in 2008. During his career, he had the privilege of serving on many different bases and submarines around the world. He spent 13-plus years of his career on sea service. Frank continued to serve the community after retirement. He was a member of Fleet Reserve No. 29 in Bremmerton, Wash., as well as a member of the American Legion. Frank was an avid motorcycle rider and rode in many bike rallies and fundraisers to raise money for various charities. He was a loyal race fan of everything from dirt track to NASCAR. Frank loved his family fiercely, and his greatest accomplishment was becoming a father.

He is survived by his father Frank Vollmer Sr.; four daughters, Makia (Zach) Raboin, Tessa Vollmer, Wesley Vollmer and Francesca "Frankie" Vollmer; one granddaughter, Naveah Davidson; two sisters, Laura (Jeremy) Damon and Kathy Vollmer; five nieces, Lindsay Crossman, Casey (Dustin) Waschenbach, Ashley Crossman, Katie (Joseph) Ward and Kobie Miller; three nephews, Aaron (Kristen) Crossman, Robert Stanley and Klayton Miller; 14 great-nieces and great-nephews; and Michelle Williams, his best friend and the mother of his children.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lyn Vollmer.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Kirgan Funeral Home, Barry, Ill. Burial will be in Taylor-Martin Cemetery in El Dara.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the family.

ARRANGEMENTS: Kirgen Funeral Home.
