Laurens – Jessie Elizabeth Crawford Ashley Townsend, 90, widow of Robert Townsend, of 1 Martha Franks Drive, died Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Jimmy W. and Fannie Estell Gambrell Crawford. She was of the Methodist Faith and retired from Riegel Textiles. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and was twice married, first to the late Frank M. Ashley. Granny Townsend was the best Granny ever. She was one of a kind.
Surviving are: two step-sons, Robert (Bobbie) Townsend, Jr. and Curtis Townsend, all of Hodges, eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three sons, Danny, Bobby, and John Ashley, three daughters, Judy Crawford Samples, Betty Ashley Samples, and Ruth Ashley Gooch, her brother, JW Crawford, and two sisters, Rachael Crawford and Gladys Keller.
Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Brian Cannon officiating.
The family is at the home of a granddaughter, 112 Hill Trace Drive, Bradley, SC and will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
