In 1902, at age seven, moved with his parents and family from Kentucky to Foard County, Texas. Attended public schools at Crowell, Texas. Married Ima Ura TRAWEEK on 8 FEB 1915 at Quanah, Texas. Graduated from North Texas State University whereupon he taught public school at Foard City, Texas, at Vivian, Texas for two years, and at Thalia, Texas for two years.
He was elected county judge of Foard County in 1924. He served in that capacity through 1927. While he was county judge, he passed the bar examination. Moved to Vernon, Texas in 1930, practicing law for seven years after which he was elected District Attorney, a position he held for two terms. In 1942, he went to Austin as assistant attorney general for two years. He was appointed by Governor Allan Shivers as district judge and returned to Vernon to serve in that office eight and one half years.
In 1959 he moved to Amarillo, Texas where he was assistant district attorney for four years. In 1962 he returned to Vernon to practice law. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination for the Texas Supreme Court in 1962, and was defeated as a candidate for a post on the Texas Railroad Commission in 1964. He was a member of the Vernon Bar Association and First Baptist Church.
