Shirley Pearce Carling, 84, died on May 13, 2019 in Chubbuck, Idaho.

Shirley was born on June 7, 1934, in Paradise, Utah, to Francis Marion Pearce and Clara Jensen Pearce. She married Frank Reynolds Carling on December 10, 1953, in the Logan LDS Temple. Frank died of cancer on June 23, 1984. Shirley graduated from South Cache High School in Hyrum, Utah, in 1952 as an honor student. She worked for 2 ½ years at the Utah General Depot in Ogden, Utah. It was here that she met her future husband. She and Frank enjoyed square dancing twice a week for many years, and their association with the Saddle Club.

She was active in the LDS Church, having served as a teacher and organist in the Sunday School, a counselor, teacher and pianist in the Primary, a teacher in the Young Women’s organization, secretary, counselor, compassionate service leader, teacher, pianist and visiting teacher in the Relief Society. She also served as a Cub Scout den leader, committee member and Cubmaster, as well as ward music chairman.

Shirley worked as the minister’s secretary and office manager at the First Presbyterian Church in Logan, Utah from 1968-1996. After 43 years in Hyrum, Utah, she moved to Chubbuck, Idaho in 1997. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, writing and watching sports on TV, especially the Utah Jazz. She also enjoyed playing cards with her family.

She is survived by her four children: Don(Brenda) Carling of Apache Junction, AZ; Kenneth (Christy Anne) Carling of Hyrum, Utah; Mark (Mary Agnes) Carling of Central Utah; and Julie Carling of Chubbuck, Idaho. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers (Douglas, Montieth and Robert), 3 sisters-in-law (Nellie Pearce, Maxine Pearce and Adele Pearce), a sister, Betty Lemon, and a grandson, Jason Frank Carling.

A funeral service will be held in her honor at 10:00 am on Friday, May 17th, in the Chubbuck 8th Ward Building, 450 James Ave, Chubbuck, Idaho. Viewings will be held one hour prior to the service, as well as from 6:00-7:30 pm on Thursday evening at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd, Chubbuck, Idaho.
