Shirley June Lee passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 in Tyler. She was born June 22, 1940 in Dallas to W.C. McElroy and Leola Ford McElroy.

Mrs. Lee grew up in Midlothian and graduated from Midlothian High School as Salutatorian in 1958. In 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, James Lee of Waxahachie and moved to Memphis, Tennessee where James attended Optometry school. Shirley and James moved to Henderson in 1963, where they raised their family. While in Henderson, Shirley was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on various church boards and committees and was an active member of United Methodist Women, Women’s Forum, and Renaissance Club. After moving to Tyler in 1983, she was an active member of Pollard United Methodist Church serving on various boards and committees and serving in various leadership roles in United Methodist Women. She was a member of Pollard’s Builder’s Sunday School Class. She was also an active member of Tyler Women’s Forum, Tuesday Reading Club, and the Lunch Bunch, as well as a volunteer for United Way, Salvation Army, and Creative Kids.

Mrs. Lee was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and mahjong player and enjoyed attending events at Tyler Civic Theater and UT Tyler Cowan Center. Her favorite times were holiday gatherings and backyard family barbeques.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. James M. Lee; and son, Jeff Lee. She is survived by her loving family including her sons, Greg Lee and wife Jolene, John Lee and wife Leigh, Robert Lee and wife Janice; and daughter-in-law, Julie Lee all of Tyler; grandchildren, Chase Lee and wife Rachel, Caitlin Tutt and husband Nick, Anna Lee, Reagan Lee, Jacob Lee, James Lee, Jordan Roberts, Peyton Roberts; great-grandchildren, Ella Lee and Audrey Lee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandy and Steve McMillion of Fairfield, Sherry and Charles Moudy of Arlington, and Shanna and Mike Pope of Allen; and sister-in-law, Iris Wilson and husband Charley of Waxahachie.

A memorial service for Shirley June Lee, 78, of Tyler was schedule to be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Pollard United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Luna and Rev. Stephen Rhoads officiating.
