--Daughter of Harry Alexander and wife Margaret Irene "Rena" Westmoreland. The family lived in the Coddle Creek area of Iredell County in 1930 and 1940. Harriett graduated from Mooresville High School. She then attended Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing and then Lenoir-Rhyne College.
--She enlisted in the Navy, but World War II ended before she could report for duty.
--Harriett married Malcolm S. Rhyne on June 4, 1950 in Iredell County. The couple had 4 children: Mike, Meg, Harry Alexander, and Tom Rhyne. She was the grandmother of 6 and great-grandmother of 7.
--member of Camp Greene Presbyterian Church and later Christ Presbyterian Church, where she and her husband taught Sunday School and she later served as Director of the Day Care Center for 6 years.
--She had served as PTA president at Ashley Park Elementary School.
--Harriett was First Runnerup in the Mrs. North Carolina Pageant in 1957.
