Jesse married Olive Wheeler in 1806. They had eight children in 19 years, three girls and five boys: Laura (1803-1809), Alanson Benson (1807-1903), Maria Benson (1810-1885), Flora Lillah Holford (1815-1875), Lyman David Benson (1817-1884), Susannah Benson (1819-1825), Anderson Benson (1822-1897) and Addison Benson (1822-1873).

Jesse died on March 19, 1847, in Beetown, Wisconsin, at the age of 66.
