Artie Bradshaw-Bowne, 102, of New Castle, passed away on the evening of Friday, December 22, 2023, at Chalet Healthcare in Indianapolis.

She was born on March 16, 1921, in Russell Springs, Kentucky, a daughter of the late James William and Mary Effie (Piercy) George.

Artie was known for her caring spirit, and her life was marked by caring for others. Even though she faced many obstacles in life, starting with being orphaned at age 13, she had an upbeat personality and dearly loved the Lord. She often said that God was the first person she spoke with in the morning and the last person she spoke with at night. Artie believed in living a lifestyle of exercise and eating healthy. She said recently, "God has blessed me. I don't have an ache or a pain in my body."

On November 11, 1939, she married George Bradshaw, and they moved to New Castle, Indiana. For over 30 years, Artie was the manager of Jan's Hallmark Store on Broad St. Following the death of her first husband, she married Robert Bowne. Artie was a faithful member of the South Memorial Drive Church God for over 80 years, where she was a founding member of the Karing Keenagers Class. Artie was in charge of funeral dinners for over 25 years and worked in any capacity at the church where there was a need.

Those left to cherish Artie's memory include a grandson, Troy Bradshaw, of Indianapolis; an adopted grandson, Chip Pierson, of Indianapolis; a special step-granddaughter, Judy Hunnicutt of Florida; five great-grandchildren, Brandon (Keisha) Bradshaw of Indianapolis and Kimberly, Michael, James, and Andrew Siskavich all of New York; two great-great-grandchildren, Drake Bradshaw and Lorelie Siskavich; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, including Jerry (Carol) Dockery of Cincinnati, OH and Phyllis (Dan) Bond of Nashville, TN.

In addition to her parents, Artie was preceded in death by her first husband, George Bradshaw, in 1972; her second husband, Robert Bowne, in 2006; her only child, Charles Bradshaw, in 1986; and two grandchildren, Michelle Bradshaw, in 2012 and Dale Bradshaw in 2016. The youngest of 12 children, Artie outlived all of her siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, December 29, 2023, at Sproles Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Artie loved flowers, and the family would love to see the chapel full of them in her memory.
