Arlene Ann (Wenthold) was born on September 15, 1933 to Albert and Evelyn Wenthold. She graduated from De Sales High School in Ossian, Iowa with the class of 1951. On May 10, 1954 Arlene was united in marriage to Joe Thuente at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Festina, Iowa. Arlene retired in 1996 after serving fifteen years as the Hardin County Treasurer. Prior to that she had been the Ackley city clerk and the office manager for Monsanto.
Arlene was an avid seamstress. She gifted many beautiful quilts to family members and friends. She enjoyed gardening, with a colorful flower garden to show for it. She liked to play golf and bridge. Through the years she was a member of the St. Mary’s altar society, the Ackley Volunteer Ambulance Service and the Ackley City Council. Joe and Arlene enjoyed traveling. She was quick with a smile and friendly to anyone she crossed paths with.
Arlene Thuente is survived by her husband, Joe Thuente of Ackley, Iowa; her daughter, Wanda (Tim) Burke of San Marcos, Texas; her son, Neal (Kim) Thuente of Johnston, Iowa; grandchildren: Joe (Jennifer) Thuente, Charlie Thuente, Molly Thuente, Jacob Stone and Sadie Stone. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gerald.
