David G. Berkel, age 84, of Harrisburg, passed away at 12:57AM, Monday June 11, 2007 at Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Indiana.

David was born on May 23, 1923, in Equality, to the late Frank and Agatha (McLain) Berkel. He married Shirley (Bean) Moore on May 20, 1997 in Morganfield, Kentucky, and she survives is Harrisburg.

David was a Navy veteran serving in WWII, then later served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. David was a crane operator for Ford Motor Company for thirty years, and he also worked out of the Operating Engineers Local Union of Chicago Heights. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Equality, and the McLain-Glover American Legion Post #595.

In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Flahive, and husband Dale of Manteno, Illinois, and Robin Lee Robeson and husband Don of Peotone, Illinois; four grandchildren: Jay and Chad Flahive, and Justin and Carrie Robeson, one great grandchild, Timothy Robeson, one brother, Randall Berkel and wife Mary; two step children, Darren Moore of Marion, and Derek Moore and wife Sarah of Tolono, Illinois, and twin step grandsons: Dylan and Gavin Moore.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 PM, Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality.

His body will then be cremated and buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Equality and burial is planned at a later date.
