Historian and writer O. C. Stonestreet wrote about John Ervin Davidson in an article, "Search for Rock Crest School Leads to Gifted Writer" in the February 25, 2017 Community Section of the Statesville Record & Landmark (Statesville, NC). In it, Stonestreet references five prior Record & Landmark articles written by John Ervin Davidson, which were autobiographical in nature. Stonestreet noted that Mr. Davidson, a victim of polio at age 21, had typed these five articles "...using a long reed he held in his mouth to strike the typewriter keys. He used the same technique to do paintings."
