He was born July 13, 1913, in Stockholm, Sweden, to Victor I. and Ellen M. (Hendricksson) Hokanson. At the age of 9, he came to the United States by himself and attended school in Chicago. He moved to Moline in 1935 and married Margaret Klingborg in 1937 in Chicago. He became a U.S. citizen in 1941. They moved to Hillsboro in 1995.
He was a plant manager at a sheet-metal factory.
He was a member of Thor Lodge 9, Moline. He was a Lutheran.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Beverly Boyum, Hillsboro, Texas, and Janice LaMacchia, St. Louis; two grandchildren, Katrina Kothe and Jeffrey Boyum; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins in Sweden.
