Obituary: Funeral services for J.L. Barnes, Sr. of Cordele will be held at the Chapel of Rainey Funeral Services, Sunday, June 3, 2007 at 4:00 PM with interment to follow at Story - Odom Cemetery in Worth County. Mr. Barnes, 83,
died at Crisp Regional Hospital Friday, June 1, 2007. He was born Tuesday, August 21, 1923 in Pierce County and was the son of the late Simon and Vera Waters Barnes. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Barnes was a retired
farmer and a member of Wenona Baptist Church where he served on the board of deacons. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Odom Barnes of Cordele; two sons, Lin Barnes, Jr. of Cordele and Scott Barnes of Powder Springs; two daughters, Janice (Ronnie) Greer of Murfreesboro, TN and Patsy (John) Leab of Cordele; two brothers, Tip (Betty) Gamble and Rev. C.R. (Geneva) Gamble, both of Warwick; a
sister, Geneva Pritchard of East Tawas, MI; four grandchildren, Chris (Misty) McKee, Jackie (Penny) McKee, Sheri (Matt) Deal, and Kristi Leab; and four
great-grandchildren; Jack McKee, Kasey McKee, Lane Deal and Logan Deal.
