Obituary for Donald Wayne Austin:
Donald Austin, 83 of Indian Trail, NC passed away May 6, 2015 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, He was born December 13, 1931 in Union County, NC the eleventh child of Joseph D. and Mae Williams Austin.
Don was a member of Matthews United Methodist Church and the Elizabeth Patrick Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Mint Hill Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the Oasis Shriners. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. Don worked for many years with Gulf Oil Corp and retired from the US Postal Service in 1992.
He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, three sisters, and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his loving wife of over sixty years, Gayle Barrier Austin, his sons: Jerry of Matthews, Ricky (Susie) of Bailey, and Tony of Matthews, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren and brother, Tom of Pageland, SC.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 1:00PM at Matthews United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00PM until 1:00PM on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation and the Matthews United Methodist Church Daily Bread Ministry.
