Grady Gnar Herin, 93, of Garland, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2019. Burial will be at East Delta Cemetery.

He was born on May 24, 1925, in Vasco, Texas, to the late Kinith “Bill” Herin and Golden Edith Rea Herin and was raised on his family’s farm. He attended school through the 9th grade at East Delta High School. He stopped school in order to begin working on the farm to help provide for his family.

Grady met his lifelong love, Betty Faye Randolph, when he took a set of mules over to Sulphur Bluff to get shoes put on in order to harvest the hay meadows. They were married on January 24, 1944, in Hugo, Oklahoma, and moved to Garland, Texas, in 1955. Their lives were filled with love, laughter, and family where they raised two sons, Scotty and Danny. They were a wonderful example of hard work and commitment in a marriage. Grady served in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in February 1945.

Grady was a hardworking and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Although he loved farming, ranching and being outdoors, he moved to town in Garland to provide a better living for his family.

He established a work ethic based on honesty and integrity; two characteristics he has always been known for. His work ethic inspired so many to be their best and never quit. Grady retired from Ford Motor Company where he worked until they closed their assembly plant in Dallas Texas, in 1970. Following his tenure with Ford, he continued in the workforce with Johnson Controls where he received his second retirement after 15 years.

Although his formal work career ended, he never was one to sit idle. He was always tinkering with a project, making repairs, working for local families and willing to help anyone who needed it. He was a simple guy with simple enjoyments and time with family/grandkids and at his farm were his greatest treasures. The kindness and love that Grady showed to everyone he met left a permanent positive impression on all who knew him, and he will be missed dearly.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty.

Survivors include his sons, Scotty Herin and his wife, Theresa, and Danny Herin and his wife, Dana; grandchildren: Holly Herin Wallace, Cade Herin, Jodi Pistler, Marti Ewell, and Cody Waldrop; five great-grandchildren; and many dear friends. U5
