Son of Rev. Stephen Ashby and Susannah Foote.

ESCAPED INDIAN CAPTIVITY

In the early part of 1789, his father Stephen with family, mother, and seven other siblings started on their journey to a new life on the frontiers of what was then Western Virginia.

In 1789, sixteen year old Beady Ashby was told of his father's intentions to escape captivity in Indiana by the Pottawattomie Indians and pleaded with his father to go with him. The mother's intercessions prevailed and the two left the camp intending to escape. Mr. Ashby having escaped from captivity began a seven year exhausting effort on behalf of his captive and suffering family. Susannah and her remaining children were to remain in bondage seven years. Escaped Indian captivity with father in 1789.

1. Zachariah Ashby (1803-1880), living in Spencer County in 1850.
2. Levi Ashby (1805-1861) m. Mary Fry on 27 Nov 1828, Shelby Co., KY.
3. Sanford B. Ashby (8 Feb 1808-1873, Davies Co., KY) m. Mary R. Bell on 2 April 1839, Ohio Co., KY.
4. Susan Malinda Ashby (14 May 1811-23 Jan 1873) m. Samuel Ruble in 1835, Spencer Co., KY. Samuel Ruble was a Messenger of Church Minutes for the Little Mount Baptist Church at Spencer County to the Long Run Association in 1842.

Beady Ashby became fairly wealthy and was considered by all a success. Beady died before his father and a daughter named Malinda Ashby received the "tract of land I now live" from her grandfather. 1810 and 1820 living in Shelby County.

Obediah's name is mentioned in Stephen Ashby's Will as being deceased.
