Stuart Auchincloss Truslow began his eternal celebration in the presence of his Heavenly Father on February 21, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Helen Stevens Truslow of Atlanta, Georgia, his son Donald Kent Truslow and daughter in-law Beverly Leigh Truslow of Charlotte, North Carolina, son Edward Allen Truslow and daughter in-law Mary Alice Truslow of Valencia, California, grandchildren Ann Truslow Siak (Mark), Stuart Auchincloss Truslow II, and Martha Kent Truslow, and great granddaughter, Frances Morrison Siak, all of Charlotte, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Kent Truslow and Mildred McCutcheon Truslow, and brother Kent McCutcheon Truslow.
Stu was born in Summit, New Jersey on July 2, 1930. He graduated from the Pingry School in Elizabeth, New Jersey and attended the Academy of Aeronautics in New York and Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia before enlisting in the United States Air Force.
After Stu completed his officer and flight training, he flew the early generation of fighter-bombers, most notably the F-84F Thunderstreak, with the Strategic Air Command. While serving in the Air Force, he married his first love, Helen.
Following his service to his country, Stu and Helen moved to Summit, New Jersey after Stu joined Eastern Airlines. They lived in Summit for nearly eighteen years where they were busy raising their two sons and were active in the community. In 1974, they headed south and relocated to Atlanta, Georgia.
Stu was an avid tennis player, quick as lightning with a great top-spin forehand. He also had a lifelong interest in photography, having caught the bug from his father who became a widely recognized nature photographer for National Geographic. Stu could build or fix just about anything. He enjoyed working in his shop on projects ranging from building custom cabinetry to a soap-box derby car.
Most of all, Stu was a people person. He loved meeting new people from all walks of life and learning their stories. He loved catching up and joking with old friends. He was genuinely caring and quick to offer a word of encouragement seasoned with good-natured humor. Stu loved the Lord Jesus Christ. He was led to Christ while in his forties by his wife, Helen, and from then on, he lived his life continually seeking a closer relationship with his Savior. Stu was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He cherished his family and in return he was loved and cherished by them. He will be deeply missed.
A service celebrating Stuart's life will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Lenbrook, 3747 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30319 at 11:00 and will be followed by a reception.
