Thalma Charles (Cook) Tubbs, 58, native of Woodson, died at 10:55 p.m. Thursday at Stephens Memorial Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital Wednesday morning after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Jimmie Thames, pastor of First United Presbyterian Church, officiated. Burial was in Woodson Cemetery under the direction of Melton Funeral Home. Born April 18, 1908, in Woodson, he was married to BERNICE (Bee) WARD in 1948 in Oklahoma. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. JOE TUBBS of Woodson, and was a rancher and cattleman at Woodson. He served with the United States Army in World War II. Survivors include his wife of Woodson; one brother, VERNON TUBBS of Greenville; three sisters, Mrs. FLOY ARTHUR of Fort Worth, Mrs. COPELAND JONES of Albany and Mrs. MILDRED ADAMS of Houston and several nieces and nephews, including JERRY TUBBS, player-coach with the Dallas Cowboys. Pallbearers were ORVILLE JONES, GEORGE DICKIE, SR., VIRGIL RILEY, and PHELTON LEAKE, all of Woodson and MERLE ROBERTSON of Graham and BRANN GARNER of Breckenridge.
