AMARILLO, Tex., Oct. 15 - (AP - Joe Sneed, 64, prominent cattleman and chairman of the directorate for Texas Tech at Lubbock, died suddenly at his home here early this morning. He had been ill but a few hours.

A native of Milam county, Mr. Sneed was a member of a pioneer ranch family. His father, Joe Sneed, Sr., established the ranch interests in 1879. In 1906 Joe Sneed, Jr., established his own ranches in Moore and Dallam counties. He was among the first cattlemen to buy better grade stock for building up herds. He had served in an official capacity for the Panhandle Livestock Association and other cattlemen's organizations.

He was first appointed to the Texas Tech board of regent in 1933 by Gov. M.A. Ferguson.

Besides the widow, Mrs. Bradley Sneed, the mother, Mrs. Lillian Sneed of Georgetown, a sister, Mrs. Terry Thompson of Amarillo, a brother, J.B. Sneed of Dallas and four step-sisters survive him. All of the step-daughters, except Mrs. Byron Brown of Lubbock, are residents of Amarillo.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the family home here.
