David was born January 12, 1944, in Reading, Pennsylvania, a son of Sherman and Ethel (Buchanan) Barto, Sr. He was employed for 37 years with Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, beginning in the underground mines and later moving on to shovel operator. David’s world was centered around his family. He possessed a heart of gold and was willing to help anyone.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he is survived by his wife, Marlene (Babcock) Barto of Negaunee; his children, Robert (Candy) Barto, Sr. of Gwinn, Kim (Bill) Belmore of Marquette, and Shawn Barto of Negaunee; grandchildren, Robert (Ashley) Barto, Jr of Brighton, Chet (Ashley) Barto, Sr., Rylee Barto, and Willy (Keara) Belmore all of Gwinn, and Shana Belmore of Marquette; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Desiree, Olivia, Ryder, and Chet Barto, Jr., Ryleigh Bragenzer, Lilly and Layla Belmore; his sister, Stella (Roger) Craig of Delaware; brothers, Sherman (Gloria) Barto, Jr of Pennsylvania and Gary (Jean) Barto of Delaware; a sister-in-law, Renee Barto of Pennsylvania; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nicole Barto; a brother, Richard Barto; a nephew, Gary Babcock; and a niece, Heather Craig.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Marquette Salvation Army Chapel on Thursday, September 7, beginning at 3:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 pm Thursday afternoon. Captain Doug Winters will officiate. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marquette County Salvation Army, 1009 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
