Alvin T. Thompson, age 88, of Mount Horeb, Wis., died on Monday, May 19, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Madison. He was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Blue Mounds township, Wis., to Thomas and Fredricka (Neilson) Thompson. He married Bernice A. Mickelson on April 15, 1937., He was employed by Mid Continent Oil Company for 6 years. He and Bernice farmed the Thompson Homestead for 13 years. He was a building contractor in the Mount Horeb area for over 20 years. They lived at Lake Wisconsin for 9 years. They moved back to Mount Horeb in 1985. Alvin loved carpentry work, building new homes and remodeling others. Music was his favorite hobby. He was a member of "SPEBQSA" Chorus and Quartets for 22 years. He sang in several choirs for 37 years. He also played several. instruments. He loved boating and fishing. He sponsored a softball team for 14 years. He was assistant instructor for the high school "Building Trades" program for several years. His church played an important role in his life, where he was on church councils for 18 years as a member of the former East Blue Mounds Lutheran Church, Lodi First Lutheran Church, and Mount Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Horeb. He is survived by his loving wife, Bernice; a son, James (Cheryl) Thompson of Lake Mills; two daughters, Lois Rivers of Madison, and Pauline (Allen) Frix of Chattanooga, Tenn.; also surviving are 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great- great-grandchildren; his sister, Alice Webb of Virginia; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Fredricka Thompson; a sister, Doris (Mrs. Clifford Aavang); a brother, Clarence Thompson; and a granddaughter, Laura Rivers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Mount Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tom Isaacson officiating. Burial was at East Blue Mounds Lutheran Cemetery.
