Maye Powell Byrd, lifelong resident of Mountain Home left this life to go to her heavenly home on June 11th 2007. Mrs. Byrd had just celebrated her 98th birthday on March 9. Born March 9th 1909 to Jesse E. Powell and Ella Anglin Powell in the Whiteville community, she was the last of her family siblings which included Floyd Powell (Pearl), Reba Powell Casteel, (Bob), Fred Powell (Margo). She married Lloyd Ray Byrd on Jan 18, 1930. He passed away in 1979. Her son Harold Dean Byrd of Gassville passed away in 1998.
Maye is survived by two daughters: Linda Byrd Short of Fort Smith, AR, and Shirley Byrd Wiseman of Lexington, KY; 3 grandsons; Larry (Vicki) McVay of Lexington, KY, Ron (Robin) Byrd of Bentonville, AR, and Bill (Cynthia) Byrd, of N. Little Rock, AR; 3 granddaughters: Sherri (Richard Flood) McVay of Orlando, FL, Misty (Claude) Bryant of Fort Smith, AR, and Barbara Nelson of Fayetteville, AR; her great-grandchildren: Jennifer McVay (Jim) Martin, of Lexington. KY, Crystal McVay of Lexington, KY, Kerry Nelson of Fayetteville, AR, Kambri Nelson of Fayetteville, AR, Dylan Ray Bryant of Fort Smith, AR, Madison R. Bryant of Fort Smith, AR, Bradley Byrd of Bentonville, AR, Hayden Byrd and Spencer Byrd of N. Little Rock, AR;2 great, great grandchildren: Connor Dean Martin and Reagan M. Martin of Lexington, KY; nephews and nieces: Jesse Lee (Betty) Powell Phoenix AZ, Gene (Sharon) Powell of Whiteville, AR, Gary (Rosvi) Casteel of Oregon, John Powell, Mike Powell, Patty Powell; and by many, many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, the 16th of June at 2:00pm at Gassville Baptist Church in Gassville, AR with burial to follow in Gassville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from Noon to 9 PM at Roller Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends 6 pm to 8pm.
