A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the husband of Anna Byrum, who survives, and the son of Robert Byrum and Mary G. Byrum, both deceased.
He retired from General Electric.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include son, Mike Oakes of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughters, Catherine Oakes Luttmer of Louisville, Ky. and Deborah Oakes of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren; brother, Bob Byrum; sister, Judy Matzet; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at Alamance Memorial Park on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 3 p.m. by the Rev. James A. McDaniels.
