Archdeacon, The Venerable Charles Twining Boyd M.A. was born on the 19th February 1842, the second son of William Boyd and his wife Isabella (nee Twining) of Arncliffe in Yorkshire. His father was Archdeacon and Vicar of Arncliffe.

He was educated at Rugby School and University College Oxford. He matriculated 19th October 1861 aged 19, received his MA in 1868. He initially served as a Curate at St Nicholas Church in Newbury, from 1877-9 he was Rector of Princes Risborough.; from 1879 he had been Chaplain to the British forces in Ceylon later for many years
Archdeacon of Colombo in Ceylon. There is a Boyd Place in Colombo named for him.

He married Adelaide Powell at Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire on the 16th January 1872. They had no children

He died on the 3rd May 1914 at their home in Camberley, Five-Ways on Church Hill and was buried at St Peter’s on the 6th May 1914
