Obituary.
─────
“She was as good as she was fair;
None—None on earth above her!
As pure in thought as angels are.
To know her was to love her.”,
Once more the angel of death visited West Berkeley and plucked from the garden of life one of its fairest flowers. Less than two years ago Mrs. Nellie T. Borkheim was a joyous happy girl with all the world before her, and radiant in the knowledge that she was a bride who was loved and adored by the man whom she had wed, and ever since this happiness has been hers. She and her husband had just furnished up a cozy home in which they have for sometime enjoyed life and were looking forward to an era of prosperity, when about one month ago she contracted a cold which developed into pneumonia. All that able physicians and living relatives could do was done to nurse her back to health, and a few days ago it was thought that she had triumphed over her sickness, for the flush of health was again spreading over her cheeks, the light of life was again glistening like diamonds in her eyes, when, without a moments warning, that dread messenger death snatched her away from this life and her loved ones.
But a few moments before her death she was lying on a couch talking with her husband, and discussing their plans for the future. Not wishing to test her strength too far she arose and announced her attention of going to bed. She had just reached the side of the bed when she reached out her hands as if to protect herself from falling, and fell into her husband’s arms. He placed her gently on the bed and spoke to her, but her spirit had gone to the bosom of her maker.
The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bowe, and has been a resident of Berkley for the past seventeen years, having come here when she was ten years old. She leaves to morn her, besides her almost frantic and broken-hearted husband, her father and mother, her sisters, Mrs. T. McNamara, Mrs. C. R. Brown, Miss Lizzie Bowe, Miss Julia Bowe, Josie Bowe and Edward Bowe.
She was a lady who was known and loved by the larger part of the people of Berkeley and her sudden ending has cast a dark shadow over the community.
Mr. Samuel Borkheim is the Business Manager of the GAZETTE, and the editors and employees, in common with the general public, extend to him their deepest sympathy in this the darkest and saddest hour of his life and trust that Time, that healer of all wounds, will temper his sadness, and would refer him to the following beautiful lines from Raleigh:
“Even such is Time that takes on trust
Our youth, our joys, our all we have,
And pays us but with age and dust;
Who in the dark and silent grave,
When we have wandered all our ways,
Shuts up the story of our days;
But from this earth, this grave, this dust,
My God shall raise me up, I trust.”
