Marjorie Eleanor Karr was born on May 20, 1930, in Benton County, Iowa, daughter of Gerald and Minnie (Sturtz) Goings. She grew up with her three brothers in Waterloo and attended East High School with the Class of 1949, graduating early in December of 1948.
Shortly after graduation, Marjorie met Meryl Karr and they were married at her parents' home on December 3, 1949. They were the parents of nine children living in Waterloo, Washburn, Toledo, Traer and finally settling in Dysart where they lived for over 40 years. Marjorie worked as the Dietary Supervisor at Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Dysart for 25 years before retiring.
Marjorie died at the age of 88 years on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Meryl; and two brothers, Russell and Roland Goings.
Marjorie is survived by her nine children; Steven (Cindi) Karr of Dysart; Craig (Jane) Karr of Glen Haven, Colorado; Becci (Ken) Vine of Hiawatha; Kevin (Cindy) Karr of Bonaparte, Iowa; Kelvin (Vicky) Karr of Dysart; Jorie "Debbi" (Mark) Hollis of Sausalito, California; Brenda (Barry) Roberts of Dysart; Scott (Dawn) Karr of Dysart; and Jodi (Tim) Caton of West Des Moines; one brother, Robert (Rachael) Goings of Waterloo; 22 grandchildren; and a continually growing group of 18 great-grandchildren.
