Samia (Sami) Dajany, 64, of American Fork, Utah, lost her nine-year courageous battle with cancer on April 5th, 2019. She was born in American Fork, Utah on March 24th, 1955 to Fuad SharifDajany and Doris Ault-Dajany. She was the fifth of nine children.

Her family moved to Syosset, New York on Long Island in the late 1950’s because of her father’s transfer with the Associated Press in New York City. As a child, she was very close to her mother and in like, always defended the underdog. Throughout school, she participated in gymnastics, modem dance, yoga, swimming and enjoyed belly dancing classes on the side.

After graduating from Syosset High School, Sami obtained an Associates Degree from Farmingdale Community College. She later attended the State University of New York at Plattsburgh where she studied Clinical Psychology and Nutrition.

In 1980, she moved back to Utah where she met and later married Dennis Lamaun Ney. They were married for 30 years. She worked at the Utah State Developmental Center where she held both direct care and non-direct care positions for 30 years until she retired.

Sami enjoyed drawing, crafts, music, writing poetry, and discussing politics and psychology. She often made her own patterns for crocheting which she learned from her Aunt Marilyn. She was often seen working on her garden which she decorated with angels and garden gnomes. When she became ill, she would supervise her grandson CJ who helped her with the gardening.

She had a near-death experience in college after her appendix ruptured. When sent back, she helped to teach others that the meaning of life was to find one’s purpose. She believed life’s lessons were to learn patience, kindness, and endurance.

Samia is preceded in death by both parents, a sister Maryam Dajany, a step-son John Peterson, a niece Maryam Re, and both sets of grandparents: Pearl Pierce-Ault and Clyde Henry Ault, and Aliyyah al-Khalidi and Sharif’Yousif Dajani. She is survived by her husband Dennis Lamaun Ney of American Fork, two step-children Denice NeyLugo and Riley Ney, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one maternal aunt Marilyn Ault Pratt; four sfsters: Alleah McCarthy, Innam Dajany, Marina Graham, and Jomanna Dajany; three brothers: Sharrif (Nanette) Dajany, Omar (Belinda) Dajany, and Kahlil Dajany; five nieces; five nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 13th, 2019 at 1 :00 pm at the Wing Mortuary located at 118 E. Main, Lehi, Utah. Interment will be at the American Fork Cemetery. Please share your memories of Sami on our online guest book at wingmortuary.com.
