Betty Jo was born on February 12, 1925 in Lakeland, Florida to Nora and Keith Adair.
Work took her family to Tampa, Florida, where she attended University of Tampa. Her faith was the foundation of her life and she was deeply involved in Tampa's First Christian Church. It was there she met and married her husband, Harold Victor Johnson, Jr.
Betty Jo and Harold moved to Eugene, Harold's home, where they became active in Eugene's First Christian Church.
Betty Jo's life was defined by her service to others. She volunteered at Sacred Heart Hospital, Northwest Christian College, and in ways too numerous to count at First Christian Church. In 2011, First Christian Church awarded Betty Jo the honor of Elder Emerita at their Centennial celebration.
Betty Jo is survived by her three children: Sharon Peterson, Rick Johnson, and Susan Klingman; four grandchildren: Devon Peterson, Jodi Gonsman, Kim Daniels, and Julie Burks; and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Betty Jo's life will be held at First Christian Church this spring at a date yet to be determined. Memorial contributions may be sent in her name to Eugene's First Christian Church, 1166 Oak Street, Eugene, OR 97401.
