Billy Simonton Sharp, age 86, of Crockett passed away Friday, April 5, 2019.

Billy was born February 4, 1933 in Houston County to parents, Leonard Sharp and Lois Simonton Sharp.

After serving his country in the United States Army, moved to Houston then moved back to Crockett in 1976.

He opened Bill’s Garden Shop in 1976 and operated until 1982 then worked at Texas Department of Criminal Justice until his retirement.

Billy had been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1976, serving on the church cooking team and a longtime member of the Crockett Evening Lion’s Club.

He enjoyed woodworking making wooden crosses, had quite an affection for John Deere Tractors but loved gardening, taking such pride in sharing his garden.

Billy is survived by wife of 66 years, Benita Brown Sharp of Crockett; son and daughters-in-law, Barry and Suzanne Sharp of Cedar Park and Jeanna Driver of Houston; granddaughter, Bethany Rodriguez and husband, Fred of McKinney; grandson, Benton Sharp and girlfriend, Katie Vippermen of Lorena; great-grandson, Maddox Rodriguez; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by sons, Baby Boy Sharp and Billy Wayne Sharp; parents, Leonard and Lois Sharp; brothers, Aubrey Sharp, Calvin Sharp, John Sharp; sisters, Margaret Basquette, Mary Levrett, Kalena Shaw.

Funeral services for Billy Simonton Sharp will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Malcolm Monroe and Rev. Barry Sharp officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park. Family will receive friends for visitation Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 984, Crockett, TX 75835.
