H. Virgil Benton, 77, of Claxton, died April 10, 1993 at the VA Medical Center in Augusta. The Wheeler County native had been living in Evans County for the past several years. He was employed by Evans Concrete for a number of years as a truck driver. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Rogers Benton of Bellville; a daughter, Nancy McCord of Silva, N.C.; two sons, Billy Benton of Richmond Hill and Clarence Benton of Claxton; two step-children, Ronnie Powell of Edgewater, Fla., and Fay Bryant of Juliette; one sister, Mary McNeal of Claxton; one brother, Van Benton of Savannah; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, 1993 at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Don Bazal officiating. Burial was in Sardis Church Cemetery near Glenwood,

Pallbearers were nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Eastside Baptist Church.
