Evelyn Louise (Butterfield) Fortney
Evelyn Louise (Butterfield) Fortney, 96, Marion, went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2019. Born October 27, 1922 to the late Hazel (Ford) Butterfield and Claude Lee Butterfield. She married Robert Dale Fortney, Easter Sunday morning, April 21, 1946. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before Robert’s death on April 30, 2011.
She work as a cafeteria worker at Marion High School and McCulloch Middle School for 17 years. She also worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone. During World War II and she worked in the Bookkeeping Department at Delta Manufacturing.
Evelyn was a life time member of the First Church of God, and former Sunday school teacher. She led Thursday morning prayer meetings in her home until her health forced her to move into Miller’s Merry Manor. Evelyn’s heart was always in her church work, but her true calling was being a Prayer Warrior. If you told her a concern or worry, you could count on her to take it before the Lord! She would pray until there was an answer. We can’t image the world without our mother’s prayers.
She is survived by 4 daughters. Linda (Ronald) Baxter, Marion, Cathy Earnest, Powell, Ohio, Amy (Dr. J Gary) Harris, West Unity, Ohio, and Mary Beth Fortney, Cincinnati, Ohio. She had 8 grandchildren. Michael (Michelle) Baxter, Lesley (Rev. Steven) Sparks, R. Nathan (Lori) Harris, Daryl (Denise) Earnest, Adrienne (Todd) Holtzlander, Elizabeth Schuurman, Becca (Jason) Altman and Sara (Ricky) Risley. She also had 17 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
