Athens -- Emory W. Allen Sr., 71, of Athens Route 1, secretary for the past 20 years for the Athens County Fair Board, died early Monday in O'Bleness Memorial Hospital. He had been ill one week.
Born at Danville, W. Va., son of the late William and Nettie Allen, he lived in Athens County for over 50 years and was a retired dairy farmer. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Constitution Lodge 426 F&AM of New Marshfield and the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife, Frances; three sons, Emory W. Jr., of Athens Route 1; James E., of Waterford Route 2; and Bernard L., of Albany; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, William H. Sr., of Athens; one sister, Miss Faye Allen, Huntington, W. Va.; two half-brothers, Charles R. Allen, Sandusky; and Albert W. Allen , Mobile, Ala.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Blanche Holloway, Huntington, W. Va.; and Mrs. Iris Conard, Clarksburg, W. Va.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 :30 p.m. at the Hughes Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Hare officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.
Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
