Mr. Hammitt was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives about 10 years ago, and had been trustee of Jackson Township, twice.
He is survived by the widow, Bertha Ann Watson Hammitt, his mother, Mrs. Mary Hammitt, two sons, Frank, of the U. S. Navy and Hugh, of Ft. Wayne, one sister, Mrs. Faye Snyder, of Jackson Township and one brother, Frank, of Cincinnati.
He was an active member of the Republican Party and a prominent farmer of this county.
