Gwenellyn Romaine Hatling was born on January 30, 1928 in the Village of Dalton, Minnesota, to Noble J and Nora Hatling.

Gwen went to elementary school in Dalton and graduated from Washington High School, Fergus Falls in 1946. She then attended Moorhead State College where she was chosen to sing in the college's prestigious concert choir. October 9, 1949, Gwen married Gordon Zeise at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Dalton.

Gwen was always actively involved in the farm where she and Gordon made their home. In addition to raising their 4 children, she helped with milking the cows, raising livestock, driving tractor and any other job that needed doing. She will be remembered for being the "bucket girl" whenever Gordon needed help. Gwen also held jobs at Zosel's Hardware, the old SuperOne downtown, Sears, and the AmericInn, all located in Wadena. Both before and after retirement, Gwen enjoyed traveling to various locations to visit family.

Some of the many things Gwen enjoyed were her farm, singing, cooking, crocheting, knitting, quilting, her pets, driving her golf cart, playing cards, staying active in her church and keeping a diary of her adventures. Gwen had been the Choir Director at the United Methodist Church, in addition to being a solo vocalist, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a proud member, and former President of the Deer Creek American Legion Auxiliary (Buy A Poppy!).

On Friday, March 29, 2019, Gwen passed away in the care of Ethos and Eventide Sheyenne Crossing in West Fargo, North Dakota at the age of 91. Preceding Gwen in death were her parents, Noble J and Nora (Johnson) Hatling, her brother, Noble Jay Hatling, her husband Gordon Zeise, her son Paul (Scottie) Zeise, and her son-in-law Ron Johnson.

Gwen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children: Becky (Kim) Lovgren, Buchanan, ND; Kathy Johnson, Ponte Vedra, FL; Bonnie (Scott) Brown, Cloquet, MN; her 6 grandchildren: Monica Lovgren Dragt, Brian Lovgren, Keven Johnson, Julia Zeise, Chris Brown, and Gwenellyn Brown Paulsen; her 9 great-grandchildren: Harli, Korri, Maysen, Kali, Kody, Kennedy, Maggie, Sam, & Daniel; her brother- and sisters-in-law Gerald and Margaret Zeise, Dorothy Waskosky, and Betty Hatling; her many nieces & nephews, extended family and her friends.
