High Bradford (1912), a romance novel set on Cape Cod.

Old Cape Cod: The Land, The Men, The Sea (1920), a nonfiction history book.


Daughter and only child of George Williams Bangs of Brewster, Cape Cod, Mass. and Susan "Susie" A. (Rogers) Bangs of Milton, Mass. Granddaughter of Capt. Freeman H. Bangs of Brewster and newspaper proprietor Henry Rogers of Boston. Mother died prematurely of consumption in Nassau, Bahamas in 1870. Presumably raised by aunt Susan Abby Bangs (1842-1894) in Brewster, but left town to attend "Latin school" in Boston in 1882. Father died prematurely of drunken fall in Cincinnati in 1883. Mary worked as secretary in Boston, and resided as boarder in Beacon Hill neighborhood from about 1900 to about 1950. Revisited friends in Brewster several times over the years, including in 1922, when she arrived by aeroplane from Nantucket. Founding member of and active in Boston chapter of American Ramabai Association charity. Held a passport and traveled to Europe on two occasions. Remained single, never married.


Miss Mary Bangs of 66 Chestnut Street, Boston, died of bilateral bronchial pneumonia October 2, 1956, at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass. She was 88 years old, born in Boston, daughter of George W. Bangs of Brewster, Mass., and Susan Rogers of Milton, Mass. She was cremated October 5, 1956 at funeral home in Belmont. (Per death certificate)
