Major Zachary enlisted on January 11, 1952 in Headquarters & Headquarters Battery, 139th Field Artillery, 38th Division Artillery (DIVARTY), 38th Infantry Division (ID). He was discharged on August 1, 1958 to accept an appointment as a 2nd Lieutenant.
He was separated as a Major on October 10, 1974 from 38th DIVARTY, 38th ID.
