Local retired Carpenter, Dies

Arch J. Shutt, age 78, a lifetime resident of the Columbus area, died at 3:45 yesterday afternoon in the Maude Norton City Hospital where he had been admitted a few minutes earlier after suffering a heart attack.

Mr. Shutt was born May 11, 1899, at his present farm home, one-half mile south of Sherwin, the son of William H. and Martha E. Henderson Shutt. He attended the Sherwin school. He was married to Goldia Plummer Jan. 20. 1946, at Chetopa. He was a carpenter, retiring in 1970 due to ill health.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Goldia Shutt; one step-daughter, Mrs. Bertie Lou Baker of Wichita; one sister, Mrs. Clara Mead of Pittsburg and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Jorden Funeral Home. Burial will be in Edgmand cemetery.
