Martha Jane Van Loan Bacot Hamilton (Mrs. J.C. Hamilton, Jr.)

BATON ROUGE, LA - Martha Jane Van Loan Bascot Hamilton was born in Shreveport on Sept. 20, 1918, and died in Baton Rouge on Aug. 11, 2006.

Educated in the private and public schools in Shreveport and a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School, she attended Centenary College where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. An active member of the Shreveport Junior League, and an almost lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in that city, she was a member of other civic organizations there and in Baton Rouge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A. Hudson Van Loan Sr., and Leila Kemp Boisseau and her husbands, Lt. Henry Parrott Bacot Sr., U.S. Army Air Corps of South Carolina, and John Carroll Hamilton Jr. of Shreveport, as well as a brother, A. Hudson Van Loan Jr. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Professor H. Parrott Bacot Jr., and Barbara SoRelle Bacot of Baton Rouge, and John Carroll Hamilton III and Claire Lejeune Hamilton of Austin, Texas, as well as a grandson, J. Graham Hamilton of Austin.

Mrs. Hamilton has donated her body to medical science. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Twelve Apostles at St. James Episcopal Church on August 19, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Robert Odom officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice or to Hospice of Baton Rouge, 9063 Siegen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.

The family expresses its sincere appreciation to Mrs. Hamilton's very caring sitters, Cheryl Rodriguez, Cathy Blanchard and Eloise Martin.
